Reduce Outrageous cost of Political Party Nomination Forms by 70%

Sign this petition to compel the National working committees of the 18 political parties in Nigeria to reduce the price of forms for elective positions to boost female participation and stop money politics.

Despite alarming inflation rates, Nigerian political parties including The All Progressive Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Action Alliance (AA), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and the other 14 political parties have all set the prices of forms to contest the 2023 general elections at exorbitant rates. The forms are unaffordable prices, especially for interested credible candidates who are not financial giants.

Weeks after political parties commenced the sales of nomination forms for elective positions for the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, only one woman, Susan Wayas has procured gubernatorial forms because of exorbitant fees. Nigerian women alone constitute 49% of the country’s population but hold less than 4% representation of elective positions which account for the non-inclusion of women in governance, and peace and security initiatives.

The high cost of nomination and expression of interest forms by political parties threatens democracy and female participation, due to undue monetization of the process, making elective positions only available for the highest bidders and godfathers.  Brilliant, passionate, hardworking, and women without financial godfathers desirous of making meaningful contributions in Nigeria cannot contest favourably with moneybags which reinforces the cycle of patriarchy and lack of quality representation.

The high cost of forms forces aspirants to adopt thuggery and violence, especially against female aspirants to ensure victory which results in endless litigations and crises.

Also join the Nigerian Feminist Forum campaign to get more women elected in 2023 and increase female participation.

Sign this petition to encourage credible women to seek elective positions to represent other women and address insecurity, insurgency, violence, child marriage, female genital mutilation, poverty, domestic violence, quality education, and much more.
